The loco was shunted this week to get it under the hoist in order to remove the fan roof. Here it is on the turntable at Barrow Hill after the roof was removed.

After the roof was removed it was turned over to give better access to the underside in readiness for cleaning. The fan can be seen through the mounting arrangement leaning against the hoist. The fan on the donor loco is much bigger than a Baby Deltic fan, the smaller inner ring seen on this photo is the size of the new fan, the outer ring is the original. The new fan is hydrostatic and replaces the silly EECo method of driving a fan off a free-end gearbox - one of the problems of the original Baby Deltics is, therefore, eliminated.

With the fan roof completely inverted, it is seen here ready to be lifting again and dropped onto the trolley behind it. This allows us to keep it mobile during the cleaning / modification process.

Thanks to Barrow Hill for the loan of the trolley and for assistance with the shunting.

Two before and after photos below of work carried out on the electrical equipment. The upper photo is one of the cab indicator light assemblies which sit above the instruments on the Drivers' desk and the lower photo is a random (normally open contact) push button.

Finally for this update, the grab handles have been fitted into the (A side) bodyside. Originally used to aid access to the boiler water tank filler, these are only there purely for cosmetic purposes.
