(Above) Sometimes the news updates are mediocre and sometimes they're less so, this time it's a fairly substantial move - both literally and metaphorically.

Seen from the coaling stage at Barrow Hill, D5910's no. 2 end bogie is being shunted round to Sheaf Engineering earlier this week (a shunt loco was on one end out of shot and the no. 1 bogie on the other). Sheaf will undertake a light overhaul on the bogies to a scope drawn up between the BDP and Sheaf. Sheaf have considerable experience of bogie overhaul and repair and we are very pleased to have them work on our bogies.

(Above) with D5910 on jacks in the background the two bogies have been pushed onto the turntable. With no traction motors (away for overhaul at Bowers Electricals) and most of the rigging missing (already removed for repair) the bogies weigh almost nothing and are an easy push into position.

(Above) Looking slightly forlorn whilst supported on jacks in the Roundhouse at Barrow Hill, the loco is pictured just after the bogies were pushed out. Although it's completely safe to leave it on jacks, shortly after this photo was taken the loco was lowered onto stands where it will remain until the bogies are finished.
