The loco is presently hidden under a thin tarpaulin because of the danger of damage to the bodyside and bogies (traction motors) caused by work being done by Barrow Hill volunteers on the adjacent road.
This reduces the light available inside the cabs and shows the red laser line to good effect in the photo below. The laser is used to show the datum for the height of the Drivers' desk at no. 2 end. The desk itself isn't being fitted just yet, but the bracketry for the brake valves acts as its mounting on the left hand side. The brake valve bracket is welded to the cab / nose bulkhead at the front and to the cabside structure upright at the rear.
Once tacked into place the Drivers' desk was removed and the bracket fully-welded in, see here after painting in primer.
Just visible in the photo above but seen to better advantage below are the two new bulkhead plates which have been welded in recently. Both have been replaced at this end (as with the other end) because of excessive corrosion of the original plates. At both ends the plates now act as mountings for the repositioned parking brake brackets. The mounting holes for these brackets can be seen in both plates adjacent to a slot which allows the parking brake pull rod to pass through the bulkhead. The large hole in the middle will be used for cable and pipe runs and will be enclosed once the runs are in place.
