Working on the final details on the bufferbeam at no. 1 end, the mounting for the multiple-working recept has been welded on. The loco will not be fitted for multiple working, the originals were (Blue Star) but there's very little point for us and it's a layer of complication we don't need. The jumpers and the recepts will be there but they won't do anything apart from add to the picture.
When the nose end doors are fitted this will be unseen detail. There is a small step up / down from the nose floor to the bottom of the door. The curve follows the profile of the doors / nose front at a radius of about 2500mm. Using a piece of 70 x 70 x 8 angle, seven cuts were made in the lower edge to allow the angle to be bent to the correct radius. Once the top edge had been fully welded to the nose floor the slots were welded up, ground back and then the whole assembly painted.
In preparation for installation to the loco bodyside the five grilles have been painted in primer. With many thanks to Johnathan Rance of the Pioneer Diesel Group who sprayed them for us.
