As is traditional at this time of year we want to thank all of those people who support the Baby Deltic Project.
We’ve made incredible progress in 2024, some of it very obvious and photogenic and some of it less so. The photo below shows just how close to looking like the original Baby Deltics D5910 is. Each update we’ve done shows progress in one form or another, some of it minor (fitting footsteps in the bodyside) and some of it major (making and installing bodyside grilles). We must be doing something right because the loco has been on display for the last few Barrow Hill events rather than being shunted outside.
With a small number of personnel working on the loco it’s sometimes hard to see the end of any project but it really feels as if we are moving towards the end now. It's important to recognise the commitment made by those people, there aren’t many of us (and that’s fine) but locos don’t build themselves and without them we’d be nothing – thank you.
As ever there is still a fair amount to do and a fair amount of money to be spent (and raised…), 2025 will be a year of considerable spend – it is almost inevitable that we will be buying cable and lots of it. There isn’t a single strand of original cable in the loco and there’s hundreds of metres of it needed, of various sizes from small control cables to massive power cables.
Next year will see more progress as we move towards the completion of the project – we aren’t ever going to promise a date by which the loco will be complete, we’re not that silly! When we have something to say, we’ll say it here first.
Keep checking back here for updates, we will continue to use Facebook to spread the word but as it becomes ever more AI driven and ever more full of drivel our website will remain the only place where you can see full (and accurate) updates on the project.
Everyone can play a part in moving the project to its conclusion – we don’t have a sales organisation as such but you can buy a book about the progress of the project so far, a car / window sticker to demonstrate your support for the project, or make a donation through the sales page of this website.
Regular donations are a massive help to the project and we are lucky enough to receive money from a small number of dedicated enthusiasts who share our dream – to them especially at this time of year we want to say thanks, it really makes a difference and it really is very much appreciated. Thank you.
