The light overhaul of our bogies has been completed.
These photos from yesterday shows the bogies back in the Roundhouse at Barrow Hill waiting to be fitted to the loco.
They were moved to Sheaf Engineering (on site, at Barrow Hill) in September and they have been progressed quietly and without fuss since then. The Traction Motors (moved to Bowers Electrical a couple of years ago) were worked on at the same time and returned to be fitted in January.
All of the work on these bogies has been undertaken in complete compliance with the CV-19 restrictions in place in England, even our own volunteers haven't been able to visit the site since November.
The completion of this work is a huge step forward in the project to recreate a Baby Deltic loco, we are extremely grateful to Barrow Hill Engine Shed Society and to Sheaf Engineering for their assistance with this work.
A detail photo (below) of the no. 2 end bogie. Note the installation of the correct type of equalising beams (holes machined in for lightening) and the retro-fit of original style (i.e. non-automatic) slack adjusters.
Neither bogie is painted, this is a cost-saving measure which will be undertaken by our volunteers in due course.
