Yesterday work restarted on the conversion after a delay of around five months as a result of the restrictions on movement across the UK.

With the bogies now ready to re-install we continued the tedious, physically exhausting and monotonous task of preparing the loco underframe. It is a statement of the obvious that the underframes of the donor loco are different to the underframes of a Baby Deltic and there's quite a lot of heavy stuff in the way. One example of this is the item shown on the left below - the side-bearer. It was fitted in the hole shown on the right below. The majority of the force applied to it in working condition is sideways so it's held in position by a 100mm diameter spigot and retained by eight bolts. Installed by EECo in 1964 or so it hasn't been removed since and put up a fight when we wanted it off.

Working overhead from within a pit with heat, noise and physical effort was robust reintroduction to the loco.......
