With the super-bright LED light string shining out the loco is seen below having the cab roofs worked on. A scaffolding was in place at Barrow Hill for their volunteers to undertake roof work on one of their brake vans and the opportunity was taken to use it this week. There were a number of jobs which required roof access and they're been stacking up for some time. The cab door aperture closure plates are a massive water trap and 60 or so years have taken their toll. All four have been renewed and sections of the rainstrip / gutter removed for replacement later.


At the same time both roofs have been stripped back to bare metal and had the cab vents and mounting holes for the Brake Selection Indicator Lights sealed up. This was completed with some filling to remove imperfections and then a coat of primer.

The beauty of being at Barrow Hill is the turntable, work on one end / finish / turn loco / work on the other end.
