Uplifting news

Taking advantage of an opportunity to use a set of jacks at Barrow Hill, the loco was lifted this week.  The bogies have been removed and set aside and will be cleaned later to allow an inspection of their condition.

Whilst in the air (shortly to be set down onto stands, it won't stay on jacks) all the outstanding work on the underframe will be undertaken.  This mainly comprises the removal of all the (now) superfluous bracketry, pipework and conduit from the donor loco, then cleaning and painting the remaining frame parts.

There are quite a few large, heavy and unnecessary structural bits remaining from when the loco was a Cl. 37 - things like side-bearers and outriggers - which obstruct some bits of the Cl. 20 bogies, these will be burnt off and turned into scrap.

At the same time detailed drawings will be made of the underframe as it now (as opposed to how it was, or how it exists in CAD....) to enable the design of the fuel and (dummy) water tanks for the recreated loco.

The fuel tank will be as per the original EECo. design but the water tank will be accurate in appearance only, it's internals will contain air receivers and other ancilliary equipment which are necessary for the recreated loco to be air / vacuum braked.
