In one of those fortuitous moments that occur all too infrequently we found one of these at an auction. It's a fuel tank for a Class 158/159. Dimensionally it is smaller in every way to the OE design for a Baby Deltic fuel tank - it would, effectively, fit inside one. So we bought it at a cost significantly less than it would have cost to have the steel for an OE tank cut.
It is seen here after delivery to Barrow Hill this week.
And seen here temporarily mounted under the loco to make sure that none of the vents, mountings or sight glasses got in the way - they don't.
It's quite a bit shorter than a loco tank, as witnessed here when compared to the position of the bracket hanging from the loco underframe.
Seen against the newly-installed centre bracket (see previous news updates) and temporarily suspended by Carver clamps and resting on wooden blocks.
By the end of this weekend the OE fuel tank design will have been modified to become a shroud / cover which will attach to this tank so that the appearance of the loco will be unchanged.
