There are two separate work streams at the moment, one concentrating on refining the surface of the body and one concentrating on completing the details around the cabs and noses.
The body refining is the iterative process of filling, flatting and checking that the imperfections left behind when the body panels were welded on are removed - progress seen in the photos below. The slightly darker coloured paint shows to good effect the areas which are to be removed to fit grilles, windows and a door in; no point perfecting pieces which will end up in the skip.....
The two new footstep designs have been completed and the parts laser cut. In a remarkable occurrence of two assemblies fitting both 'on the drawing' and 'on the loco', the cab footsteps and bogie footsteps (minus, for now, the actual treads) are seen having a trial fit.
