All the laser cut parts for the grilles and bogie footsteps were delivered last week, this week they've been tacked together. It was so cold yesterday that there was no real impetus to handle (literally) freezing steel and anyway it's not good practice to weld when the parent metal is so cold.

The tacking was sufficient to prove that the drawings were correct and the sub-assemblies fitted together. The fabrications are now in a state where they can be seamed up next week when it's warmed up a bit.

The photos below show the four bogie footsteps and one of the body grille assemblies, this with some of the louvres test fitted.

Last week at Barrow Hill the loco was used as a projector screen for the 'Shine a Light' event, the opening part of which was an animation of the loco outline being 'laser cut'. The animation used our drawings as the source for the information and, as can be seen, the outline is remarkably accurate. Proof if nothing else that it really does fit on the drawing and fit on the loco.
