More progress this week on the preparation of the engine room and nose ends in readiness for the installation of the equipment later on.
The upper photo to the right show the view looking down on to the nose end after completion of the floors, weld dressing and painting in BR Spec 81 green primer.
At the 'top' corners of the photo you can see the sandboxes and the blanking plates referred to in last week's update. Next to the sandboxes are the two foundation plates needed to be able to widen the nose front as a result of the shortening process.
The lower photo shows what will be the auxiliary equipment room (formerly the radiator compartment).
This will contain the compressors and exhausters and possibly a traction motor blower - the decision on blowers has yet to be made, ideally we want to use a couple of ex-Class 08/09 blowers but don't know of any which are overhaulable.
The four boxes on the floor are the cable break-outs for the traction motor cables for this end.
The other small holes in the floor will be blanked in due course, once the precise route for coolant and oil fill & drain pipework is defined.
